The KrimpenerKunstWaard art association held its first exhibition, located in Achterbroek, Berkenwoude in the Krimpenerwaard, which is about 15 km from Rotterdam. The area is lush, green with meadows, waterways and farmland. In the midst of its beauty live muskrats who are not natural to this habitat. They thrive on the grasses along the water's edge, causing it to weaken and recede. This art project is to assist in the awareness of the muskrat as a menace. It also brings attention to this very unique environment, the Krimpenerwaard - located between 2 rivers, the IJssel and the Lek, where biking, hiking and canoeing are also popular among visitors.
Tonight was the opening of our local outdoor art exhibit. The theme is "Muskrats" and "In the Canal". I entered 3 posters, which I don't even have a picture of (yet), a muskrat collage and a really cool series of funkymuskrats, which have been photoshopped. The last piece is the only one I have a picture of so far (above). The other photos will give you an idea of location and creativity.
Even the cows were fascinated. A tractor pulling a bandwagen - yes, literally, a wagon with a musical band on it - was heading our walk down the country road and thru the meadows. Everyone introduced their own work and this was followed by a poet reading one of his poems about nature and the pastoral life. Our tour lasted more than an hour and was fascinating, as well as refreshing.
My first post was on Thursday in the wee hours. Now it is afternoon and I'm trying to work with this medium. I will be posting photos, artwork and comments--once I get the hang of this thing.
This is the start of a new form of communication from my side. I've read hundreds of these things, and now it's time to start one of my own. I don't have a plan yet, but I will let you know what my intentions are in the very near future. So please stay tuned and hopefully I will provide you with some amusement.
